Curvy Girl – Weight Management

16 Comments 24 June 2010

diet

I’ve never been the skinniest girl out of all my friends and I’m okay with that. I like my curves… however over the last few years I have moved from a size 14 & an occasional 16 to a prominent 16 – 18.

I <3 my food & I don’t want this to change but after finding some photos of me age 17 & 18 and seeing my figure it has prompted me to look after myself & aim to be back in a size 14. I will never be an 8-10, it wouldn’t suit me and it’s not in my genes (thanks Mummy & Daddy K!).

I’ve tried numerous diets before Aitken’s, a crazy diet for my 21st to get to a size 12 (I did it, but piled the weight back on fairly rapidly) so there was only one place to go in my eyes.

On Wednesday, I joined Weight Watchers. I found a class that is 5 mins walk (yes, I said walk & not drive!) from the office in Sandyford, I have even managed one of the other girls in the office to join with me, we motivating each other & walking at lunchtime now too :) Our leader seems very nice, firm but fair I’d say but let’s see when I stand on the scales on Weds! Haha.

Before with a previous partner I was told I was too fat & to watch what I eat. I’ll never forget being on my way to meet my friend for dinner and I got a text which read, enjoy but eat something good for you.

In my current relationship, Brian loves me for who I am. He has never said anything about my weight but having approached him about my longing to loose a stone or two he has been 100% supportive. He is happy to help me in any way he can & even sat down to read my little folder of information yesterday. I know that  with his support & my family & friends I can really do this.

I started on Wednesday morning before my weight in at lunchtime, Day 1 was easier than Day 2. I am finding the daily water intake (1.5 – 2 litres) easier than I thought but if your looking for me I’m probably in the loo! I believe this will settle down in a few days when my body gets used to it.

This evening, I was bit upset, I only had 7 points left after work & I knew it was going to be tough, I made beef taco but used Weight Watchers wraps for 1.5 points each & I made a point free salsa with tomatoes, chilli, limes & coriander & had a rocket & yellow pepper side salad. But my error was not checking the points of the mince before I started, 140g of uncooked mince meat is 7 points on its own. Oh well, I didn’t know… but I will for next time.

I was debating sharing this on my blog but I came to the conclusion that I would (obviously), I decided that if I do a weekly weight management post it will be even more motivation for me to be good.

I hope you guys get something out of these type of posts & if you are or have been on WW before and have any tips, receipes please, please share them.

Watch this space for Weight In – Week 1 after Wednesday lunchtime!

Oh and I think Twister & Solero Orange Ice pops are only 1 point (or 1.5)… Just if you need something sweet when the sun comes back =)

A well timed post, Lee! I’m rejoining WW on Monday after a year away. It’s the only thing that’s ever really worked for me for losing weight and keeping it off – and I LOVE my food.

The UK website is brilliant for recipe ideas – I’ve made the Beef & Guinness a few times now and my fella swears he can’t tell the difference.

Best of luck with it. Sounds like you’ve got some great support around you, which is half the battle!

It’s something I do want to try.. I’ve heard the first week is the hardest with adjusting to pointing, but then apparently it gets really easy counting points and u can points calculator apps on iphone too which is v handy! Best of luck… I may just follow your lead. x

My boyfriends sister has lost about 8 stone on WW in the last year – if she can do it anyone can – its an amazing achievement!!

The only exercise she does is going for a brisk walk every evening for about an hour rain/hail or snow!! She said setting herself tiny goals really helped her along the way!

Ive never been in WW but I started doing the 30 day shred a few months ago and its a really good exercise programme if you only have a short amount of time. I fell off the wagon but am determined to get back on it before Im in my whale suit (bikini) on my hols in Sept.

BTW the Tesco Healthy eating mince is much lower in cals than normal mince – I usually use that if I need a burger fix!

    Best of luck x

Go Lee!!! I’m in the same boat myself. I’m even considering going to counselling for food addiction – hah! I’m tired of struggling with my weight, it’s been a constant battle with myself for years and it’s always on my mind. Yet I can’t stop eating!

BTW, Quorn vegetrian mince is very low in points and is really yummy. Much nicer than beef mince I think! It’s lovely as a chilli in a wrap.

    Best of luck babes xxx

The points system does work and if you have the occasional off day, keep at it. It’s great that you’re happy with yourself because it means you’re under no pressure, you can just enjoy the results. I know when I worked “there” we all ate way too many doughnuts and other samples :)

Best of luck with it Lee! I’m trying to lose weight at the mo too and am using http://www.myfitnesspal.com (they have an app too) to track calories & so far so good.

I second the Quorn suggestion (although I am a veggie anyway) – I always use it in Lasagnes and it’s yum. They also do “chicken” fillets and stuff that are hardly any calories.

Dunno if you have a sweet tooth but Curly Wurleys are only one and a half points I think (they’re a legendary WW food!) & Skinny Cow ice creams are great too – only about 80 calories so probably only a point : )

Best of luck Lee!!! I will be reading your posts every week. The first few days are the hardest, it will be easier from week 2/3. xxxx

I am completely overwhelmed with all your support & encouragement, I really can’t believe it. Its made me so determind.

Just had a WW chocolate & vanilla mousse thingy for 2 points & I think I’d have preferred a Curly Wurly ;)

I also learnt that snack size Malteasers are only 1 point so yaay.

I wonder if I cooked Quorn could I pass it as mince to Brian, lol!

Thanks again everyone, pressures on for Weds, enjoy your wkends, mwah

Best of luck with everything! I personally cannot do WW as I can’t stand rules and regulations and doing things in groups like that – if you tell me I can’t have something, I’d go off and have it just to show you! But that’s just me LOL. I do the Low GI Diet and I find it works for me … but whatever works for you is the best thing ever! I have been on a healthy eating kick for at least 3 months now, 2 litres of water a day (yes, the loo trips do decrease) and lots of veg (not so much fruit as it’s full of sugar), just doing small things to cut fat and calories but not cutting your enjoyment of food or your nutritional levels. What helps me most is thinking about my health rather than the lbs I’m dropping but dropping they are. I only weighed myself last week for the first time and was pleasantly surprised.

Good on you doing this and best of luck with everything!!! It can only do you good x

    Good Luck Lee xoxox
