After months of research I finally bit the bullet & booked in for my 12 week blow dry. I have held off writing my blog post for awhile so I could really live with it & let you know my honest opinion.
What I learnt while trawling through the web was that there are many different products on the available on the market. Now all I had to do was find one that I liked the sound of with good reviews online & a hair salon I trusted to do the treatment.
I was torn between Dylan Bradshaw, Pink Hairdressing and my hairdresser Fusion in Dun Laoghaire. And I decided to go with the place I trust, Fusion.
On the days leading up to my appointment I left my hair to dry naturally with no product & naturally with some mousse to show how sometime I wear it wavy.

Left - Hair left to dry naturally, no product - Right Hair left to dry naturally with mousse
The Process
The first step in the process is to have your hair washed with a special shampoo which opens the hair follicles so that it can hold the Keratin. Then your hair is fully blow dried.
The Keratin is then put in, your hair is separated and it is put in like a full head of colour. Your hair feels wet again with the product, then you are left for approx 20 mins with designer plastic cap on!!!

Left - Hair with Keratin in it - Right Keratin left in for 20 mins with plastic cap
After the 20 mins, your hair is blow dried again and then the Keratin is sealed into the hair by using a special flat iron that reaches temperatures of 450°.

Keratin dried into my hair - already looks incredibly shiny & straight
For the next 72 hours I had to leave the Keratin in my hair, not clip it back, tie it up or even put it behind my ear… As I wash my hair every second day this was pure torcher… by Day 3 it was disgustingly greasey & Day 4 was unbearable…
Fusion are the only hairdressers in my research that invite you back to the salon to have the product washed out after the 72 hours, really nice touch. I was practically banging their door down at 9am to let me in to have it washed out.
By 9.30 I had gloriously shiny, soft, straight, non frizzy hair… just what I wanted.

Finished results
The treatment in Fusion costs between €200 - €250 depending on length and thickness of your hair. The price includes the special Keratin Complex Shampoo & Conditioner and the complimentary blow dry to wash out the product after the 72 hours.
Having lived with the 12 Week Blow Dry for 2 weeks I have found my hair is definitely softer, it blow drys in less time & I can leave my house without running my GHD through it.
However, my hair is not as I expected it to be after the process. I cannot leave it to try naturally, it still looks like an unruly mess as in Photo 1. For nights out or when I have something on I still use my GHD.
Maybe my hair wasn’t frizzy enough in the first place to need a 12 week blow dry… maybe it didn’t work to its full potential in my hair… who knows but ladies, my advice would be save your cash! It’s not cheap treatment and I don’t feel I’ve had value for money with my hair type.
Unfortunately I will have to pack my GHD for my holidays

The Discussion
see what everyone is saying
Have been thinking about having this done to get rid of the horrible frizz and kinks in my hair, but was hoping I could leave it to dry naturally with minimium effort! Thanks for your honest review, think i’ll give it a miss and won’t abandon the straightners just yet!!!
Great read - my hair is naturally curly (more than yours) and I would have gone for this if it had been longer than it is now. Interesting that you feel it wasn’t worth it in the end. To be honest, leaving it 4 days without washing creeped me out and, on that basis alone, I’d have not gone for it. Thanks Lee, great read!
Oh that’s a pity! My hair is really straight so I wouldnt need this. Wish I could get something to make it curly ( not a perm) Every curler/GHD/rollers ever tried fall out within an hour!
I have extremely curly and Unmanagable hair I was advised by the salon I go to that the 12 week blowdry would be perfect for my hair to tame it and I would be able to manage it myself. 3 weeks on I hate it, My hair was in great condition before I had it done its now Lifeless, dry and harder to manage, I wouldnt recommed this treatment to anyone my hair feels destroyed from it. what a waste of 220euro
@Ash I am horrified, does your hairdresser know how unhappy you are? I would definitely let your feelings known especially as it was their suggestion. I hope you get it sorted, I suppose if you want it to go out of your hair quicker you could use shampoo with sodium chloride in it to help but I’m no hairdresser. Keep us posted, xx
I totally agree with Lee, @ Ash id be on to who ever did the treatment for you to tell them your not a happy bunny.
I work as a mobile technician and this is one of the treatments I have very recently introduced- Last Monday infact.
I did the first treatment on my cousin so I could see and feel the results for myself,
She has naturally dark- but bleached blonde hair which is extremely dry from years of colouring and constant straightening : so I thought no better guinea pig to see the best results.
We did the entire treatment in her house within 3 hours and I can honestly say her hair never looked so healthy and shiny.. so with that i thought i couldn’t get it into my hair quick enough.
I would have very similar hair to above, very thick, dark and naturally wavy/ curly, with a little help from a friend i applied entire treatment and
DID NOT see the same fantastic result’s as I did on my cousin.
I have/ had chemically treated hair, not as dry as hers but dont feel like my hair is nearly as shiny or glossy as hers was after treatment- maybe I didnt do it as well as i did on her, cause it was only me I dont know but thankfully after my first wash today it was alot nicer but would def’ agree that if i was going out I would have to run the ghd over it, I havnt let it dry naturally yet cause I only washed it for the first time today.
IT IS softer and feels more nourished and looks smoother, i dont have the curly frizzy thing going on, but even to do on myself its an expensive treatment.
It must depend on the hair and that is exactly what i will be saying to clients in the future.
@Laura thank you for your honesty. I spoke to a girl in the salon the day I got mine & she was on her third. She had dyed blonde hair so maybe it mostly works in really over coloured, dry hair. It’s great to hear how honest you are going to be with clients. What other treatments do you do? Do you have your own website? Let us know, xx
does your hair dry straight naturally with it though??
@Sharon, only if I use a brush and hairdryer & spend time with it. Not if I let it dry naturally, it looks pretty much like the first photo on the blog post. xx
