Ladies, as we know my Laser Hair Removal results where more than disappointing… I grit my teeth when having to book in and spend more hard earned spondoolies on waxing!
However, for my pre wedding / honeymoon waxing, there was only one place I wanted to go. Waxperts in Dun Laoghaire.
Who? What? Why? Waxperts – here’s a little bit about themselves from their website…
“Waxperts is a dedicated waxing salon based in Dun Laoghaire, owned and operated by Dublin born Waxpert Ellen Kavanagh. A luxurious boudoir style salon, we concentrate exclusively on offering full body waxing for male and female clients.
At Waxperts, we have created a salon for the client, where the highest level of service and hygiene are met. Using the best products and a with a superior proficiency in hot wax, we will give you the best waxing experience available.
We are proud to say that we have a ‘no double dipping policy’. This means we do not redip the spatula back into the wax pot. So once it touches your skin it is disposed of. It eliminates any possibility of bacteria, hair or secretions being transferred back into the wax pot, and reapllied on to you or the next client. This ensures the safest and most hygienic treatment for you.”
Before my trip to Waxperts, I did wonder how a salon could survive on only waxing but following my visit and even though the pricing is a little higher than some salons, you certainly do get what you pay for. And after seeing what a bad wax can do to you, it’s not something I will scrimp on.
FYI Waxperts is booked out weeks in advance, I did however strike it lucky the week of my wedding. The salon owner, Ellen Kavanagh is one of my Twitter friends and tweeted about a Monday afternoon appointment that was available as they were training in new staff. I tweeted back and I was booked in. The treatment would be complimentary as it was for training purposes.
It wasn’t till after I accepted the slot that I wondered how many people would be viewing my Laalaa in the classroom!
On arrival it was so refreshing to see the “boudoir décor” in the waxing rooms instead of the usual clinical, sterile looking waxing room.
Tricia and the two girls (woohoo only 2) who were training were absolutely lovely. We chatted away and I honestly didn’t feel the usual un-comfortableness (is this a word!). I put this town to the fact that the staff were very nice & friendly, approachable too, as I asked a few questions but also the quality of the Waxperts wax. It just seemed to make everything go smoother, pardon the pun!
I believe it was the Waxperts Hot Wax, it’s a funky purple colour to match the brand. It went on and came off with ease. From researching on the website, its suitable for sensitive skin & works on strong hair.
It’s also available in Waxperts Strip Wax, Waxperts Cleanser and a Pre & Post Wax Oil. I was even impressed with this… as you might know I HATE the feel of cream. So when a therapist comes at me with a massive dollop for aftercare, I either let them proceed politely & use tissues to remove as I re-dress or I simply stop them in their tracks! Tricia explained that this Post Wax Oil is easily absorbed & you are not left with a greasy residue, double thumbs up.
I even left with a cheeky surprise for my Honeymoon

Super excited to go to Waxperts for training!
@Michelle had you heard of it? you won’t be disappointed
when is the training?
I’m glad you had a good experience with them, I however was not so lucky. The wax snapped halfway on one part and it just happened to be the sorest part it happened on! Plus I didn’t really like the therapist bad mouthing other salons. And if she mentioned that they don’t double one more time I would have screamed! Yes I get it, I’ve been to many salons over the years and a lot of them are just as hygienic! All in all, I don’t think I’d go back, not a bad place as such, just not for me…
