Make Your Own Havaianas - I did!

The Make Your Own Havaianas booth arrived instore in BT2 Grafton Street on Friday 4th June.

I had absolutely no intention of going to town on Friday until the Vodafone Ireland StreetUp in Dakota was announced. I needed that Swarm badge! So on my way to Dakota by the law’s of physics, well kinda, not really… I couldn’t pass by the door of BT2 knowing the Havaianas Bar had arrived… now that would be rude!

So in I went and this is what I saw! (Apologies for photo quality, I only had my iPhone with me)

Make Your Own Havaianas Dublin

As you can see from the photos, there is a fantastic range of colours to choose from.

I went in with the plan to purchase pink ones, surprise surprise… However after chatting to the very helpful lady, and because I already have a purple pair from last year that I would go for a neutral look with some pink bling ;)

Make Your Own Havaianas Dublin

I was a little disappointed with the choice of pins / badges. The lettering is quite boring, its a simple lower case font on a black background so I decided against getting any of those. I opted for a clear bling star on one, & a clear bling heart on the other, nice & girlie with a signature pink Swarovski in each.

I <3 them, I was showing them off in Dakota on Friday night and I wore them at the weekend non stop (yes, even in the rain!)

At first I found them not quite as comfy as my purple pair however I manoeuvred the straps and I am much happier. There was a tiny piece on the left strap that was digging in to my tootsie so I filed it with a nail file gently and it worked!

The price: so they start at €25, my sole & strap came to €30 which included one of the pins, then I added another pin €2, and the Swarovski pins were €3 each so total was €38… Considering they cost €30 with no bling I’m pretty happy with the price.

All in all I say is get to BT2 Grafton Street asap & make your own! The booth is there for the full month of June.

Make Your Own Havaianas at BT2 this June

Havaianas Booth coming to BT2

Havaianas Booth coming to BT2

This has been covered on many blogs but as a massive Havaianas fan I had to include it on Mwah.ie

I have a gorgeous purple pair which I have worn to death last Summer and already this year. Now with the chance to personalise my own pair in town I am there! Not only are they great to look at & available in a rainbow of colours but they are also sooooo comfy!

To ensure you don’t put a foot wrong this summer, BT2 Grafton Street is delighted to bring ‘Make Your Own Havaianas’ (MYOH) to Dublin. The service, which until now was only available in Selfridges in London, allows customers to customize any pair of the cult Brazilian flip flops in different colour soles and straps.

The onsite customising booth has over 100 killer colour combinations of soles and straps to choose from, plus straps can be decorated with a selection of over twenty five various pins ranging from hearts and stars to quirkier designs, for example; fruits, animals and flags.

There is also a selection of Swarovski crystals to add some ‘bling’ & make each pair truly unique which is sure to be a favourite with the girls. With over 900 combinations of straps, soles, pins & crystals, the possibilities are endless for personalizing these summer must haves!

The Make Your Own Havaianas will be instore in BT2 Grafton Street from Friday, June 4th and are priced from €25. Celebrity fans of the customised footwear include Victoria Beckham, Dannii Minogue and Patsy Kensit.

Not sure I’ll make it to into BT2 on Friday but I will hopefully get there at some stage over the weekend and I will do a follow up post :)

Xpose Live 2010

Xpose Live was really good fun. Due to a weekend of painting and home improvements and the fact that I am turning into such a Dometic Goddess NOT! I headed along to Xpose Live on Friday evening in the RDS Dublin.

I was pleasantly surprised at the turn out for the Friday night. I had thought the turn out of stalls may have been limited due to recession however I wasn’t disappointed. I made a number of purchases including laptop bag with matching document wallet, sparkley butterfly ring, powder brush from Crown Brush & a fab capri blue thick bangle from Crystal & Co.

Yom Kippur - יום כיפור- Day of Atonement

Yom Kippur is the High Holy Day. It occurs on every year on 10th of Tishri, which this year corresponds to Sunday 27th and Monday 28th September.

Yom Kippur is tough work; you are required to fast for 25 hours which includes not even water passing your lips. In fact you are not meant to shower, brush your teeth or wear make up! Fat chance of that happening in my house…

No work of any kind is allowed, a bit like the Shabbath, which means no driving or using electricity. We are not permitted to engage in sexual relations on Yom Kippur, and also wear leather shoes; most orthodox people will wear canvas runners with their suits (Fashion people should head for the direction of Terenure on Monday!!).

Between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur people are to seek forgiveness for your sins of the previous year and get ready to change your behaviour for the forthcoming year.

The festival starts on the evening before with a service in the synagogue called Kol Nidre - כל נדרי.  Kol Nidre is also known as name for the (erev) night before Yom Kippur as well as the service. Before Kol Nidre no matter how much time you leave to prepare the meal before the fast, there is always a rush to the synagogue. I believe most families fast on a light meal, sometimes an egg on toast but in my family my Dad insists on a big slap up meal! I think I would prefer something lighter personally, if I stuff my face lets say on a lazy Sunday, and then I wake up on the Monday morning STARVING! ;)

Torah in the Ark

Torah in the Ark

The day is officially spent in the synagogue for a full day of prayer. The Ark which is the closet that holds the Torah (five books of Moses) is open for most of the service which means the congregation must stand, its not easy to do at the best of times never mind being so hungry.

Children don’t take part in the fasting until they are of Bar Mitzvah / Bat Mitzvah age, which would be 13 for boys and 12 for girls as they mature faster than boys! :P

At the end of the long service the Shofar is blown with the note, tekiah gedolah, so everyone knows it’s the end.

My fondest memory of Yom Kippur is when my Great Uncle David from New Jersey would come to Dublin for the festival season and just after the Shofar blowing I would always meet him outside the synagogue, (FYI: men and women sit separate in the synagogue) and we would eat a stash of jellies, fruit pastilles I think, to break our fast together in his car before going to my family home for a big feast that my Mum would have had to prepare whilst fasting. Not easy I’m sure.

And just for a giggle; I remember coming home from school one day and watching MTV Select with Richard Blackwood in Leicester Square, he was saying loads of the “Yo Momma”, jokes and this one made me and Mummy Kutner LOL!

Yo Momma’s so thick, she though TuPac Shakur was a Jewish holiday!!!

On that note, I better get back to workies, lunchtime is over!

To all my readers, I would like to wish everyone Happy New Year and well over the fast.

Brown Cow Launch -Styling by Michelle Heaton & DermaDental

Brown Cow Launch 7th July 2009

Brown Cow Launch 7th July 2009

My favourite Dublin tanning & beauty salon in Sandyford, invited me along to the launch night to celebrate the latest additions to their Brown Cow salon:  Styling by Michelle Heaton & DermaDental a facial cosmetic suite. The launch was a glamous affair with mini cup cakes & champagne flowing.

Brown Cow Party

Brown Cow Party

Michelle Heaton of Liberty X fame, has been living in Dublin for a couple of years now with her boyfriend Hugh Hanley. Michelle has been appointed as a “Celebrity Stylist” and “Personal Shopper” for the Brown Cow Dublin salon. Michelle does not claim to be a fitness or nutritional expert nor a quailifed stylist, she has however picked up a thing or two in her 9 years in the entertainment industry. (Can you believe its 9 years since the first Popstars on UTV/ ITV!?)

Michelle herself explains; “I am so passionate about fashion, styling, hair and makeup, keeping fit, nutrition and all things girly that I thought styling and personal shopping would be a perfect fit for me, doing something I love really appeals to me. Just thinking about all of this gets me excited and I cannot wait to start! To be able to pass on what I have learned makes this all worthwhile, seeing someone’s face light up when they try on THE dress or THE pair of jeans it such a thrill for me, not to mention the fun I just know I will have with brown cows clients. Even something as simple as the right bra can make all the difference!! Girls out there can ask my advice on all things fashion, styling, and keeping fit or maybe they just want to have a girly giggle and a gossip with me as we go through the consultation glasses of champers in hand! Either way I will do my best to make sure everyone who leaves the salon after their consultation with me has had a personal, fun and informative experience and is going away with a new outlook on their own personal style with lots of tips and tricks of the trade to take with them. If I can achieve that my job is done!”

Michelle Heaton, Sue Kelly & Dr Danielle Meagher

Michelle Heaton, Sue Kelly & Dr Danielle Meagher

Having met Michelle on the night of launch & seeing how down to earth and easy to talk to I can imagine these girlie get togethers are going to be great fun. In this economic climate I did at first get a fright at the price list for Michelle’s services however upon reflection it’s probably not too bad.

Personal Styling by Michelle, consultation in the salon are priced as follows:

1 x person 1 hour = €150

2 x people 1 hour = €225

* €125 per hour thereafter

Once you have had your Personal Styling Session with Michelle, you can then opt for a Personal Shopping experience. I think this sounds fab. No matter what the budget or occassion Michelle will help you find what your looking for, whether its a capsule wardrobe or dress for that special event.

Pricing for Personal Shopping:

1 x person 1 hour = €200

2 x people 1 hour = €325

* €150 per hour thereafter

*Note* Personal Shopping is a follow on service from a Styling Consulation and cannot be booked on it’s own.

Brown Cow Staff

Brown Cow Staff

The DermaDental aspect of services include: Botox,  Lip Enhancements, Fillers, Teeth Whitening & Photo-Rejuvention Laser. DermaDental’s Clinical Direct, Dr Danielle Meagher was also at the launch.

I believe that since the launch event bookings have been coming in thick and fast for both Styling & Dermadental.

For those of you who are yet to visit Brown Cow, I can thoroughly recomment a trip. The salon is more like walking into a Boutique Hotel then your local beauty salon, the decor is beautiful and very tastefully put together. Whether your popping in for your routine waxing, Fake Bake Spray Tan which I may be slightly addicted too, I might add it is priced at €35 for a full body (not bad for rip off Dublin ;) ) the staff in Brown Cow are second to none, all the girls are very professional and friendly.  Sue Kelly & Marie Byrne the owners, take time out and make a genuine effort to engage with all their clients. Also just to mention all Dermacolgica & Fake Bake products which are used throughout the salon are available for purchasing.

Sue Kelly & Marie Byrne

Can’t wait for my next visit to Brown Cow! I don’t have too long to wait, I’m going on Friday for another tan! :D

Has anyone else been? What do you think?

Recent Summer Purchases

Haven’t had much time to blog recently. Busy busy busy! However just wanted to show you some recent Summer purchases.

M&S Navy Bow

M&S Navy Bow

I am not sponsored by M&S however it’s my favorite place to pick up some gorgeous outfits. Most of my friends my age wouldn’t dream of hitting M&S for a spree but it’s the first stop on my list. Kudos to M&S, real sizes that fit the more curvier girl.

M&S Orange Frill Bib

M&S Daisy Dress

M&S Daisy Dress

The Daisy Dress is great however with the main colour being navy I am on the search for navy leggings, not as easy as you’d think to find. Any suggestions welcome :)

Footwear for me is always a bit of an issue, I broke my foot in 2006 & every since heels are a no go! I still get an ache where the bone was broken & I also can’t walk, more of a waddle like a duck! LOL :D I know my limits in footwear and headed to Clarks to pick up some Summer sandals. Picked up these fab gold gladiators for €27.50, sale, whoop whoop!
